Tato práce se věnuje G. K. Chestertonovi a jeho netradičním detektivním příběhům (Anarchista Čtvrtek, Klub podivných živností, Paradoxa pana Ponda a příběhy otce Browna). Zkoumá, v čem jsou tyto detektivky odlišné od detektivek dalších autorů, kteří tvořili během tzv. Zlatého věku detektivky, např. Agathy Christie, nebo Arthura Conana Doyla. První část zmiňuje důležité mezníky v historii detektivky a zaměřuje se především na dvacátá a třicátá léta dvacátého století, kdy G. K. Chesterton tvořil. Snaží se také objasnit důvody tehdejší velké popularity detektivního žánru a obhájit jeho literární hodnotu. Druhá část zkoumá jednotlivé rysy Chestertonových detektivek. Zaměřuje se na detektivy, zločince a prostředí, a všímá si, jak se v nich odrážejí jednotlivé prvky Chestertonovy životní filozofie - zdravý rozum, poezie každodennosti a paradox.This bachelor thesis deals with G. K. Chesterton and his unconventional detective stories (The Man Who Was Thursday, The Club of Queer Trades, Paradoxes of Mr. Pond and father Brown stories). It explores the differences between Chesterton?s detective stories and stories of other Golden Age of Detective Fiction authors (Agatha Christie, Arthur Conan Doyle etc.). In the first part of the thesis, the most important facts from the history of detective fiction are mentioned. Emphasis is put on 1920s and 1930s, because Chesterton wrote most of his works during this period. Reasons why the genre of detective fiction was so popular those days are also given. The second part deals with the distinguishing features of Chesterton?s detective stories. It focuses on detectives, criminals, and setting of Chesterton?s detective stories. It also observes how they reflect his philosophy - common sense, poetry of everydayness and paradox.
