Cílem této práce je nastínění situace imigrantů přicházejících do USA a prožívání dané změny. Práce se zaměřuje hlavně na první rok života v zahraničí, kdy se vyskytuje mnoho problémů s adaptací - hlavně v oblastech pobytu a bydlení, začlenění na trh práce a ekonomické integrace, a vzdělání a jazyka, jejichž překonávání je nejkomplikovanější. V úvodu se objevují základní definice spojené s problematikou migrace, dále se práce zaměřuje na vývoj imigrace do USA, jakým způsobem k migraci dochází a proč lidé migrují. Dále se zmiňuji o vývoji imigračních zákonů v USA, a jaký tato ustanovení měla vliv na americkou imigraci. Následně přichází kapitola o současném vzdělávání imigrantů v USA. V práci je pak definovaná metodologie a organizace kvalitativního výzkumu a jeho výsledky. Dále jsou zmíněny vlastní zkušenosti přistěhovalců, jak vnímají změnu danou příchodem do cizího prostředí, a jak se s ní vypořádávají. V závěru práce jsem načrtla, jakým způsobem by mohla fungovat andragogická intervence, ke zlepšení a hlavně urychlení a zefektivnění integrace imigrantů do nového prostředí.The goal of this thesis was to describe the situation of immigrants who have come to the United States and their adaptation to this change. This thesis is focused mainly on the first year of the transformation, when there are the biggest problems with adaptation. The main topics were about living and residency; incorporation to a labour market and overall economical integration; and education and language, which are the most difficult to overcome. The thesis opens with basic definitions of migration; followed by the development of immigration to the United States, descriptions of the different types of migration, and the answer to the question of why people migrate at all. Furthermore, I am talking about the establishment of immigration law in the US and the effects it has had. Immediately proceeding that, there is a chapter about immigrants' education in the US. Then, the organization and methodology of the qualitative research are explained; along with its results. Next are the experiences of immigrants from when they were moving into their new place; such as how they overcame the major obstacles during adaptation. At the end of the thesis I sketched how we could proceed further with andragogical intervention to make the adaptation process faster and more effective.
