Tato diplomová práce se zaměřuje na podoby zla 20. století v dílech Jerzyho Kosinského. V samotném úvodu vymezuje pojem zla, přičemž vychází z evropské kulturní tradice, tedy z tradice řecké a židovsko-křesťanské. Rozlišuje dvě hlavní kategorie: (1) zlo osobní (týká se jednotlivců) a (2) zlo společenské (týká se větších skupin lidí, přičemž může být působeno i jedincem). Samostatnou kategorií je pak zlo, které není v moci lidského konání, např. nemoci. Práce chronologicky dokumentuje podoby zla, ale i možná řešení uvedená v díle a zároveň se snaží o hledání paralel se současností. Rozvíjí možné příčiny a důsledky projevů zla. Ptá se po původu zla a jeho dosahu. Zabývá se tak zlem v celém rozsahu od drobných lží přes násilí až po zlo války a totalitních režimů a s tím spojené vyvražďování celých společenství (holocaust), zkoumá též možnosti užití zlých praktik ke konání dobra. Rovněž pozoruje rozdíly projevů zla v závislosti na prostředí a vzdělanosti. Významnou roli v dokumentaci a rozboru zla pak hraje zlo plynoucí z odlišnosti a jinakosti spolu s nabízeným řešením tohoto zla v podobě asimilace. Věnuje se také novodobým problémům sociálních vztahů, medializaci a celkovému odcizení ve společnosti a s tím spojené ztrátě identity.This thesis focuses on the manifestations of evil in Jerzy Kosinski's work and its representation in the 20th century society. Firstly, it defines evil based on the heritage of the Euro-American culture - i.e. the heritage of the ancient Greece and also of the Jewish-Christian tradition. This study further distinguishes two main categories: (1) personal evil (only individuals are involved), and (2) social evil (large groups of people are involved; nevertheless, it can also be achieved by a single person). A separate category presents evil as unavoidable by the nature of life, e. g. illnesses. This study chronologically documents the manifestations of evil and also possible solutions mentioned in Kosinski's work. It also tries to show parallels with the recent situation. It discusses possible causes and consequences of manifestations of evil and seeks the origins and the overall impact of evil which is considered in a whole range of different situations, from minor lies to violence and the evil of wars and totalitarian regimes together with the related genocides of entire ethnicities (holocaust). It also tries to analyze various ways of employing evil practices for good aims. Furthermore, it follows the differences in the manifestations of evil as related to people's social and cultural background and education. An important role in the documentation and analysis of evil plays the kind of evil which results from a difference, together with the phenomenon of assimilation as a proposed solution. The thesis also deals with current problems of social relations, media related issues and the overall feeling of alienation in society that can be traced back to the loss of identity.
