Táto práca je rozdelená do dvoch hlavných častí a to teoretickej a empirickej. V teoretickej časti tejto práce sa zameriavame na kvalitu života, jej definíciu, ponímanie v rôznych odboroch a možnosti jej zisťovania. Ďalej sa zaoberáme onkologickým ochorením, príčinami jeho vzniku a vplyvom ochorenia na psychiku človeka. Rozoberáme tiež paliatívneho pacienta v terminálnom štádiu choroby, jeho potreby a vplyv zomierania na jeho sebavnímanie a sebahodnotenie. Samostatnú kapitolu venujeme aj smrti a zomieraniu, rozoberáme štádiá vyrovnávania sa so smrťou a ritualizáciu smrti. Veľká časť našej práce je venovaná paliatívnej starostlivosti, jej definícii, histórii a súčasnosti. Pojednávame o princípoch a zásadách paliatívnej starostlivosti, o jej úlohách a mieste v starostlivosti o pacienta. V kapitole o komunikácii sa zameriavame na spôsob zdeľovania zlých správ, akými ireverzibilnosť choroby a neodvratnosť smrti bezpochyby sú, a na dôležitosť ponechania nádeje v takýchto situáciách. Posledná kapitola teoretickej časti je venovaná psychologickej intervencii a terapii pre onkologických pacientov. Empirická časť našej práce je venovaná výskumu na tému kvalita života paliatívnych pacientov, čo ju ovplyvňuje a čo nie. Individuálny charakter kvality života dokumentujeme na porovnávaní hodnotenia kvality života samotným pacientom a ošetrujúcim personálom.This work is divided into two parts - theoretical and empirical. In the theoretical part of this work we concentrate on quality of life, its definition, meanings in different areas and options of its detection. Further, we focus on cancer, reasons of the origin and the influence on human's psychic. We also discuss about the palliative patient at the terminal state of the cancer, his needs and the influence of death on self-concept and self-esteem. We devote the whole chapter to death and dying, analyze the states of dealing with coming death and the ritualisation of death. Big part of the work is devoted to palliative care, its definition, its history and its present. We are talking about the principles of palliative care, about its functions and the role in taking care of patient. In the chapter called communication, we focus on the way of breaking bad news, and the importance of leaving some hope in these situations. Last chapter of the theoretical part discusses about psychological interventions and the therapy for cancer patients. The empirical part of our work talks about the research in the quality of life of cancer patients, what does influence it and what does not. We confirm the individual character of the quality of life on comparing the evaluations filled in by patients themselves and by medical staff.
