Tato diplomová práce se zabývá slovesy uvozujícími přímou řeč v americkém románu 19. a 20. století a je založena na excerpci sloves vyskytujících se na 100 stranách románů The Last of he Mohicans, East of Eden a Catch-22 a jejich překladů. Uvozovací slovesa jednotlivých románů se pak srovnávají a hledají se vývojové tendence. V další části se pak analyzují uvozovací slovesa v českých překladech zkoumaných románů a srovnávají se s anglickými originály.This diploma thesis deals with reporting verbs introducing direct speech in American novels in the 19th and 20th century. It is based on three novels: The Last of the Mohicans, East of Eden and Catch-22 and their Czech translations. First part consists of the excerpts of the reporting verbs. The reporting verbs of the individual novels are then compared. Finally the reporting verbs in Czech translations of the novels are analysed and compared with English originals.
