Práce pojednává o dílech a stylu psaní dvou velikánů současné skotské literatury. Díla Alasdara Graye jako zástupce skotské renesance a Iaina Bankse, oblíbeného autora nejen scifi literatury, sdílejí mnohé společné rysy, které jsou postupně odhalovány za pomocí rozebrání stěžejních románů každého z autorů. Nejprve se tak děje z hlediska jejich využívání mnohovrstevnaté perspektivy pro vyprávění a odkrývání jejich příběhu. Dalším kritériem, a do jisté míry i jednotícím prvkem obou autorů, je i jejich specifické zacházení s ženskými postavami, které jsou ve většině jejich děl velice silné a mnohdy svou dominancí zastiňují i své mužské protějšky.Thesis deals with works and style of writing of two great representatives of contemporary Scottish literature. Works of Alasdair Gray, as a representative of Scottish renaissance and Iain Banks, a popular author of science fiction and fiction literature share many features which are demonstrated on major novels of each of the authors. First, the works are analysed from the point of view of their treatment of multilayered narrative perspective and uncovering of their story. Other criterion and a unifying pattern of these authors is their employment of female characters which are always very strong and usually even outshine their male counterparts.
