Tato práce se zabývá stylistickou analýzou populárně vědeckého textu z hlediska překladu. Nejprve definuje rozdíly mezi vnímáním pojmu styl v angličtině a češtině a zabývá se odlišnostmi ve stylistické tradici obou jazyků. Při analýze se vychází z české tradice rozdělení stylů na tzv. funkční styly. Dále vymezuje základní rysy jednotlivých funkčních stylů a stylisticky zařazuje text k populárně vědeckému stylu. Práce se podrobně zabývá rovinou textu, jak v oblasti grafického členění, tak v oblasti obsahové. Podrobněji se věnuje hlavním tématům vybraného textu a neopomíjí ani pragmatickou stránku. Rozděluje vybraný text na výkladové a vyprávěcí pasáže a na komunikaci prostřednictvím přímých řečí. V těchto třech typech textu popisuje použité jazykové prostředky, a to nejen z hlediska užité slovní zásoby, ale zabývá se také gramatickou stránkou těchto úseků. Na závěr hodnotí úroveň překladu a vyzdvihuje zajímavá řešení, zároveň se však zmiňuje o některých nepřesnostech, které byly v průběhu analýzy odhaleny.This thesis deals with the stylistic analysis of popular scientific text in terms of translation. First, it defines distinctions between the notion of the term style in English and Czech and it is concerned with stylistic traditions of both languages. This analysis proceeds from the Czech classification of functional styles. The main features of each functional style are specified and the text is classified as popular scientific. The thesis deals with the text level in detail, with the graphic layout as well as with the content of the text. It introduces the main topics of the article "Almost Human" and mentions also the pragmatic aspect. In the paper, the National Geographic article was divided into three different parts: exposition, narration and communication in direct speech. In these parts, language is described in terms of lexical means and grammar used in the text. At the end it assesses the translation and points out interesting solutions. It also mentions some inadequacies that were discovered during the analysis of the text.
