Práce se věnuje postavě fiktivního vědce v knihách irského autora Flanna OBriena The Third Policeman a The Dalkey Archive. Hlavním cílem práce je extrahovat postavu de/De Selbyho, smyšleného, fiktivního vědce, a porovnat její vývoj a význam v rámci těchto dvou knih. Nakonec se práce krátce věnuje srovnání postavy de Selbyho s podobnou postavou smyšleného a známého génia v české kultuře Járou (da) Cimrmanem.The thesis deals with the figure of a fictitious scholar in two novels The Third Policeman and The Dalkey Archive by Flann OBrien. The work tries to extract the figure of fictitious scholar de/De Selby and compare its development and significance in these two books. Finally, the work contains a short comparison de/De Selby?s figure with a similar figure of the fictitious and famous genius in Czech culture, Jara (da) Cimrman.
