The aim of the thesis is to characterize motivational structure and describe particular motivational structures within compulsory treatment in prison and voluntary treatment in a therapeutical community and after-care centre. The thesis is structured into two parts. In the theoretical part, the following terms are defined: motivation, addictive substances, gender specifics in female drug users, drug treatment institutions. In the practical part, the collected data is analysed and interpreted and the answers to the research questions are found. The discussion provides a framework, in which the achieved results are dealt with and compared with the research. The motivation score of the female voluntary treatment participants is higher than the score of the women who underwent compulsory treatment. Motivation structure from the questionnaire in the research files differed in percentages in particular areas. The female compulsory treatment participants are motivated by their relatively high age, families and children. In the voluntary treatment, motivations for treatment are psychological reasons, influence of the treatment in prison and health problems. The obtained findings were verified by therapeutists. Data collection methods included motivation questionnaire, half-structured interview and timeline. The research files were formed by twenty long-term female intravenous drug users in a phase of abstinence and involved in the treatment continuum. The third research file was formed by six therapeutists who worked with the treatment participants. This masterś thesis is a qualitative study.
