Výsledky podporují nedávno publikovanou re-definici Lyropaeinae, mnohonásobný původ neotenie a původ velkých samic v koncových liniích Lyropaeinae. Všechny taxony byly sbírány ve starobylém tropickém deštném pralese a tento fakt podporuje předpokládanou neschopnost těchto linií reagovat na prudké klimatické změny.Neoteny is an important mechanism producing evolutionary novelties. The recent hypothesis proposes multiple origins of neoteny in the beetle family Lycidae. I tested the position of subfamily Lyropaeinae and the origin of large-bodied trilobite larvae within this lineage. The phylogenetic hypothesis was inferred from two mitochondrial genes cox1 and nad5 and the newly produced data which were combined with previously published dataset. The data were analyzed by several methods ? parsimony, neighbour-joining and UPGMA. Each gene was analysed separately and then the genes were combined and was analysed in total evidence matrix. The result support the recently published re-definition of Lyropaeinae, the multiple origin of neoteny and the origin of large-bodied females in the terminal lineages of Lyropaeinae. All taxa were collected in the ancient tropical rain forests and this fact support the presumed inability of these lineages to respond to the rapid climatic changes.
