Vlády stuartovských panovníků Jakuba I. a Karla I. s absolutistickými tendencemi vyvolaly v zemi vleklou parlamentní krizi, jež nebrala konce zejména díky neústupnosti obou anglických králů. Po jeho smrti proběhla v zemi restaurace monarchie a návrat Karla II.The work presents a summary of the main events of the English Revolution in the 17th century. The English refrmation of Henry VIII opened the imaginary door for the Puritans? religious activities. They pursued farther separation of the English Church from Catholicism. The reigns of the Stuart kings, James I and Charles I, with tendencies towards absolutism brought about a long parliamentary crisis. The restraint of parliament?s legislative power led to the outbreak of the Civil War, that lasted for several years. The parliamentarians tohether with persecuted Puritans faught with the King and the Royalists. The whole army conflict culminated in the final defeat of the Crown and the execution of the English king, Charles I Afterwards, a republic was declared in post-war England followed by the Protectorate of general Oliver Cromwell, supported by army. In fact, the regime was neither a true military dictatorship, nor a monarchy with a king. Cromwell pursued a stable republic. But continuous disputes with the Members of Parliament and opinion disunity in post-war organization of the country led to the failure of Cromwell?s plans. Strong army and a stable parliament turned out to be impossible to cooperate at one time. After Cromwell?s death, the restoration of monarchy took place in the country and Charles II became the English king.
