Magisterská diplomová práce pojednává o vlivu osobnosti Ariela Šarona na proces formování izraelské politické scény a zahraniční politiky. Text analyzuje vazbu mezi Šaronovou vojenskou a politickou kariérou a způsob, jakým tato vazba ovlivnila jeho percepci bezpečnosti Státu Izrael a židovského národa. Cílem práce je dokázat, že hlavním motivem Šaronova jednání byla vždy snaha maximalizovat bezpečnost Izraele a jeho obyvatel. Na osobě Šarona text rovněž demonstruje úzké propojení armádní a politické sféry v Izraeli a jeho dopady na výstupy izraelské zahraniční politiky - především s ohledem na postoje Izraele v blízkovýchodním mírovém procesu. Práce se skládá ze tří základních částí. První část ilustruje klíčové momenty Šaronovy vojenské kariéry ve vztahu k jeho roli v procesu profesionalizace izraelské armády a analyzuje důvody, které ho vedly ke vstupu do politiky a založení pravicového bloku Likud. Druhá část je věnována Šaronovým vazbám k židovskému osadnickému hnutí v návaznosti na jeho percepci posílení bezpečnosti země. Tento úsek textu se rovněž zabývá Šaronovou úlohou v blízkovýchodním mírovém procesu. Třetí část se zaměřuje na Šaronův politický odkaz reprezentovaný výstavbou bezpečnostní zdi, unilaterálním stažením Izraele z pásma Gazy a založením strany Kadima. Práce považuje Šarona za armádního generála, politika a státníka, který významným způsobem ovlivnil nejen dnešní podobu izraelské politické scény, ale i celého regionu Blízkého východu.This Master thesis discusses the impact of the personality of Ariel Sharon in the process of shaping of Israel's political scene and Israeli foreign policy. It analyzes the linkage between Sharon's military and political careers, and the manner in which it influenced his perception of the security of the State of Israel and the Jewish people. The main goal of the thesis is to prove that the key reason of Sharon?s acts was his endeavour to maximize the security of Israel and the Jewish people. The analysis of Sharon's acts also serves to demonstrate the tight relationship between army and politics in Israel, and the effect it has on Israeli foreign policy making with an emphasis on the Middle East peace process in particular. The thesis consists of three main parts. Part One deals with key moments in Sharon?s military career and his role in the process of professionalizing of the Israeli army, and analyzes the decisive motives leading to his entry into politics and forming the right wing political block Likud. Part Two is dedicated to Sharon?s relations with the settlement movement with regard to his perception of Israeli security. This part also examines the role of Sharon in the Middle East peace process. Part Three investigates Sharon's legacy - the construction of the security wall, Israel's unilateral disengagement from the Gaza Strip, and establishment of the Kadima political party. The thesis regards Sharon an army man, politician and statesman, who had a crucial impact, not only on Israel's political scene, but also on the Middle East region in general.
