Práce poskytuje základní informace o problematice mentálního postižení, významu sportu a sportovních akcí mentálně postižených. Dále je zpracován přehled vývoje výkonů v atletických disciplínách u sportovců s mentálním postižením v rámci SO v letech 1991 až 2007.The thesis supplies general information about sphere of people with mental disabilities, the importance of sport and sport´s events for them. Furthermore, there is an overview about the developement of athletes´ performance with intellectual disabilities under the Special Olympics in years 1991 - 2007.
