Stěžejním bodem této bakalářské práce je překlad povídky "A Mother`s Tale" amerického spisovatele Jamese Ageeho, která byla v roce 1952 uveřejněna v časopise Harper's Bazaar. Kromě překladu jsem v druhé části práce na základě odborné literatury zpracovala problematiku překladu umělecké prózy, ve třetí části jsem pak z dostupných internetových zdrojů vytvořila krátký profil autora překládané povídky. Pátý okruh tvoří komentář k překladu, v němž jsem se zabývala konkrétními problémy, které jsem při překladu řešila - nejprve jazykem povídky a mluvou postav, poté stavbou vět, kterou bylo nutné v některých případech modifikovat, dále autorovou popisností, problematikou překladu metafor a přirovnání a na závěr jsem se snažila o vysvětlení kulturních narážek, které se v povídce objevily. V šesté části jsem se v závěru pokusila o stručné shrnutí výsledků mé práce, sedmou část tvoří shrnutí v anglickém jazyce. Závěrečný osmý oddíl je určen seznamu literatury, se kterou jsem pracovala a z které jsem citovala.The main content of my Bachelor thesis is a translation of ``A Mother`s Tale", a short story written by an American author James Agee. The story was first published in Harper's Bazaar magazine in 1952. In the second part of my thesis, the problems associated with translating were elaborated on the basis of scholarly books. In the third part you can find a brief profile of the author of the translated short story. The source of information was internet. The fifth part consists of comments on the problems that occurred while translating - the language used in the story and the language used by the characters, the sentence constructions that were in some cases necessary to modify, another problem was author's detailed description, the translation of metaphors and similes, and at last, I tried to explain the cultural allusions that appeared in the text. In the sixth part, there is a brief summary of the conclusions of my work. The seventh part includes the summary written in English. The final part is a list of literary works and internet sources I worked with.
