Tato práce pojednává o smyslu aktivit teroristické sítě Al Qaeda po 11. září 2001. Svým obsahem vychází z analýzy prvků vybraných definic terorismu a z nich potom vyvozuje vliv na celkovou činnost organizace. Prvním vlivem, který hodnotí, je ideologie. Rozebírá vlivy jednotlivých osobností, určené cíle i koncepci jejich dosažení. Organizační struktura pak ovlivňuje činnost skupiny svým nastavením. Spolu s financováním prozrazuje, jak efektivně a v tajnosti může skupina své cíle plnit. Zhodnocení strategie pak vyvozuji z teoretických, ideologických, materiálních a dějinných hledisek v poslední části. Ze všech těchto faktorů vyvozuji, že je Al Qaeda moderní teroristická náboženská organizace, která vede s USA a jeho spojenci politický boj založený na islamistické interpretaci vztahů mezi státem a náboženstvím, terorismus proto není pro Al Qaedu cílem, ale prostředkem k dosažení politických cílů.This work deals with meaning of Al Qaeda terrorist network activities since September 11 2001. Content is based on elements of chosen definitions of terrorism. These elements are then evaluated in relation to overall activity of organization. Ideology is evaluated as the first influence. Chapter of ideology analyzes influence of particular leaders, designated goals and conceptions of their accomplishments. Setting of organizational structure is the root of group's activities. That along with financing shows, how efficiently and secretly can the group finish the goals. Evaluation of strategy is then based on theoretical, ideological, material and historical views in the last chapter. According to collection of these factors I argue, that Al Qaeda is modern religious terrorist organization, which is waging political struggle with the USA and their allies. This struggle is based on islamist interpretation of relations between the state and religion. Terrorism therefore is not the final goal of Al Qaeda, but only a means for political ends.
