This thesis deals with the problems of "New Left``, the social democratic parties reformed under Anthony Giddens scheme of "Third Way.`` Author analyses the success of ``Third Way" application in two major west-European countries, the United Kingdom and federal republic of Germany, with focus on program reform of Labour Party (in the case of Britain) and SPD (in the case of Germany). Major subject is the electoral change of these left-winged parties. In the beginning the thesis analyses the social transition of Western society, which has began in the 70ies, and their impact on European political scene. It demonstrates the conditions, sources and consequences of socialist parties' crisis in the 80ies. Main focus is given to the reformation movements in both SPD and Labour Party that took place in the second half of 80ies, and the application of Third Way principles. Author also mentions the inner-party struggles between the traditionalists and reformists. The core of the thesis is dedicated on comparing the cases of Labour Party and SPD reforms. Main subjects here are the electoral results in the time when ``New Left" parties reached to power, their governmental performance and the electoral ``evaluation" of this performance in the next elections, 2001 in British case and 2005 in German case. The German elections of 2002 and British 2005 may look more chronologically suitable, but their outcomes have been deformed by the problem of Iraqi intervention cause and therefore are not eligible for the purposes of this thesis. The thesis summary deals with the analysis of the results. Author focuses on the differences between the Labour Party and SPD results in the context of the party reformation process. Emphasis is given to the fact that completely reformed Labour Party achieved greater success then SPD, whose reformation has been limited.
