    This book reviews the theory of the role of peripheries in tourism, identifies the core obstacles to tourism in high latitudes, and presents recent case studies from North America, Scandinavia, Scotland, New Zealand and the polar areas. The book's 14 chapters are presented under five headings: (i) introduction; (ii) tourism and regional development issues; (iii) challenges to peripheral area tourism; (iv) tourism opportunities; and (v) future perspectives.
