The topic of my bachelor's thesis is the utilization of physiotherapy in hypermobility of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). Hypermobility of the TMJ is described as an excessive range of motion in the joint, which can lead to subluxations or even dislocations of the lower jaw. Its etiology is complex, with a large portion attributed to genetic factors and the presence of generalized hypermobility. It is one of the most common impairments of the temporomandibular joint. Unfortunately, awareness of this condition, its diagnosis, and treatment is very low, not only among the general public but also among healthcare professionals such as dentists, general practitioners, and physiotherapists. Only through the collaboration of all these and other experts can good treatment results be achieved. The thesis is prepared in the form of a research study using scientific databases and Czech and English specialized literature. The theoretical part describes the anatomy, and biomechanics of the TMJ, the etiology of temporomandibular disorders, their clinical symptoms, and examination of the jaw joint. This section also focuses on describing hypermobility, with a particular emphasis on a detailed description of hypermobility in the TMJ and its treatment. The practical part presents a case study of a patient suffering from this condition.
