Účastníci testování byli o 42,1% úspěšnější a o 9 minut a 5 sekund rychlejší při determinaci rostlin pomocí mobilní aplikace, než když k určování použili klíč. This Diploma thesis is a follow up to my Bachelor thesis from 2021, where I studied at what level are mobile applications for automated plant identification. In my Bachelor thesis, it was discovered that these mobile applications are a very valuable tool for plant identification, because, at that time, their average success rate exceeded 80%. Because this technology is constantly evolving, we can assume that these applications have already made considerable progress and they are even better now. Therefore, this Diploma thesis is focused on the possible practical use of mobile applications for automated plant identification in education. An experiment was created, which was attended by 51 university students and 54 high school students. Participants were given 6 types of plants, which they were tasked to determine (3 with the help of a mobile application and 3 with the help of simplified botanical key). The aim of this experiment was not only to find out, how successful and quick the test participants are in determining plants using applications, but first and foremost, how will their results differ when they also use classic determination aids for plant identification. The test also included a questionnaire ascertaining the opinion of individual respondents on the use of these two aids. The test participants were 42,1% more successful and 9 minutes and 5 seconds faster in identifying plants using the mobile app than with a botanical key for identification. The reason for such a striking difference is most likely the complexity of the classic identification aids and the number of technical terms they contain, which is also reflected in the answers of many respondents who stated in the questionnaire that they very often did not understand these terms. When determining the preferences of individual test participants, the applications won significantly, with almost 90% of all respondents voting that they preferred working with apps over keys. As the main reason for this, they mostly mentioned time saving and ease of use of the applications. Based on the results of the experiment and taking into account the positive responses of university and high school students to the use of mobile applications, we can assume that applications for automatic plant identification could be a valuable for teaching biology in secondary and even elementary schools. Almost 90% of the participants stated that they agree with the use of applications, whether in regular biology lessons (50%) or at least on excursions and field exercises (34,62%). Not only will the application make it easier for students to identify plants and significantly speed up the otherwise very lengthy process of determination (which can be especially beneficial on school excursions, which are very limited in time), but above all they could motivate students to further study botany and increase their interest in this subject.
