Hlavním cílem práce je poskytnout komplexní analýzu desky The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, druhého nejvýdělečnějšího alba Davida Bowieho, které v roce 1972 odstartovalo jeho profesionální hudební dráhu a zajistilo mu uznání i ze strany mainstreamu. Práce se v prvé řadě zaměřuje na mimohudební rysy alba, zejména na okolnosti jeho vzniku a zveřejnění, Bowieho inspirace a vývoj jeho dosavadní hudební kariéry a významovou interpretaci textové složky. Ve druhé řadě práce obsahuje hudební analýzu alba jako celku, jejíž výsledky jsou kategorizovány na základě struktury a dynamiky, instrumentace a obsazení, harmonie, melodiky a rytmiky. Výstupem analýzy jsou stěžejní kompoziční rysy užité ve skladbách zkoumané desky.The subject of this thesis is David Bowie and his album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars (Ziggy Stardust) that launched Bowie's professional music career and granted him recognition from the mainstream in 1972. The aim of this thesis is to provide a comprehensive analysis of this album. The focus lies on both its musical and extra-musical aspects, forming two objectives: 1) to describe the circumstances of the creation and the meaning of the lyrics of each track, and 2) to identify and describe the main compositional features in the album. The first objective involved a study of the development of Bowie's career to date and of the circumstances of the album's creation as well as a lyrical interpretation. The means to the second objective was musical analysis of the album as a whole.
