Diplomová práce kontextualizuje působení České akademie císaře Františka Josefa v dobové vědecké praxi, zajímá se o hierarchii jejího členství a organizaci jejích tříd a zkoumá povahu elitní edice Soupis památek historických a uměleckých, jejímž cílem bylo inventarizovat veškeré památky na území Čech. Práce identifikuje důležitost osobností Karla Chytila, Antonína Podlahy a Zdeňka Wirtha pro realizaci publikačního záměru a spolupráci s dalšími subjekty dobového knižního trhu jde především o tiskaře, nakladatele, prodejce a další vědecké, politické a zájmové instituce.The establishment of Czech social sciences in the late 19th century is closely linked to the institutionalisation of sciences per se. Arguably the most influential institution was the Emperor Franz Joseph Czech Academy for Sciences, Literature and Arts. The Academy's foundation was the result of an ongoing endeavour of Czech patriots, namely Josef Hlávka, who later became the Academy's president. Even though the Academy was thought to be a space for academic research (and an artistic platform), in reality, it served more as a grand agency rather than a research institution. The most recognised outcome was a series entitled Soupisy památek historických a uměleckých království Českého. It helped to establish Czech historical and art topography. Although the series was never finished, it expanded the knowledge of Czech monuments and artefacts. The task to map all material artefacts of Czech origin was too grand to be accomplished without large scale collaboration. In later years, the Academy, although being constituted as Czech, cooperated with German scientists, who focused on regions with a majority of German speaking inhabitants. Publishing was entrusted to the Alois Wiesner printing company, and consignment sale was carried out by the bookshop Bursík a Kohout. For more demanding printing tasks, the Academy collaborated with the German speaking company K. Bellmann Phototyp. The major figures behind Soupisy were Karel Chytil, author of its theoretical conception, Antonín Podlaha, the most active researcher, and Zdeněk Wirth, who helped to continue research during the difficult times of the interwar and post war periods. Thanks to Wirth's work, the unfinished volumes are still being published today under the leadership of Kristina Uhlíková, Jana Marešová and others. Apart from the research of period sources and secondary literature, the thesis is based on analyses and a description of the typography and graphical arrangement of the series. Of equal importance for Soupisy were the text and pictorial supplements. The text was mainly typeset using the Antiqua font, with the occasional use of Gothic. Hierarchisation of information included font size, cursive lettering and spacing. Illustrations comprised photographs, drawings or reproductions of historical inscriptions.
