Nebyla potvrzena souvislost mezi skóry ESK, IIQ a stupněm mentálního postižení, typem rodiny či přítomností dalšího dítěte v rodině.The aim of this paper is to examine the relation between parents' perceived life meaningfulness and their attitude towards the intellectual disability of their child. It also covers the relation between these variables and other factors. The theoretical part of this paper is dedicated to the life meaningfulness, the family of a child with an intellectual disability, its adaptation to this disability and the stands the parents take towards it. The research part is made quantitatively. 171 parents of children with an intellectual disability participated in the research consisting of a questionnaire including Existential Scale (ESK) and Illness Identity Questionnaire (IIQ). The translation and modification for the parents of children with an intellectual disability and verification of the psychometric properties of this method are included. The questionnaire focuses on the parents' attitude towards their child's disability. It was found that the relation between the score of the ESK and the scores of IIQ factors is significant as well as the relationship between ESK, the factor of acceptance of the IIQ and the amount of time passed since getting the child's diagnosis. A connection between the scores of ESK, IIQ, the degree of the mental disability, type of the family or the presence of another child was not proven.
