Proces tvorby map již díky stále se rozšiřujícímu procesu digitalizace dávno není výsadou profesionálních kartografů, nýbrž běžnou činností laiků disponujících elektronickým zařízením, nikoliv však kartografickým vzděláním. Tato práce reaguje na nutnou potřebu ověření platnosti zásad pro tvorbu tematických map v souvislosti se zmíněnou digitální revolucí. Proto byly v rešeršní části nejdříve charakterizovány základní pojmy v oblasti tematické kartografie, popsán komunikační proces probíhající skrz mapu a následně detailně popsány zásady tvorby tematických map v pojetí odborníků na danou problematiku. Hlavním cílem praktické části práce bylo ověřit platnost pěti vybraných kartografických konvencí pomocí experimentu spočívajícího v online dotazníkovém šetření, eye-tracking testování a následném individuálním rozhovoru. Testováno bylo celkem 30 respondentů bez kartografického vzdělání různého pohlaví, věku jakož i nejvyššího dosaženého vzdělání. Zjištěné výsledky byly zpracovány pomocí odpovídajících statistických metod a interpretovány v kontextu subjektivního názoru zjištěného pomocí rozhovoru. Závěry byly učiněny na základě ověření osmi dílčích hypotéz odpovídajících sledovaným metrikám experimentu.Thanks to the ever-expanding process of digitization, the process of mapping is no longer the prerogative of professional cartographers but a common activity of lay people with electronic equipment, but not cartographic education. This thesis responds to the necessary need to verify the validity of the principles for the creation of thematic maps in connection with the aforementioned digital revolution. Therefore, the research part first characterized the basic concepts in the field of thematic cartography, described the communication process through the map and then described in detail the principles of creating thematic maps in the concept of experts on the issue. The main goal of the practical part of the thesis was to verify the validity of five selected cartographic conventions using an experiment consisting of an online questionnaire survey, eye-tracking testing and subsequent individual interview. A total of 30 respondents without cartographic education of various sexes, ages as well as the highest level of education were tested. The obtained results were processed using appropriate statistical methods and interpreted in the context of the subjective opinion found through the interview. The conclusions were made based on verification of eight partial hypotheses corresponding to the observed experimental metrics.
