Témou práce sú božie súdy (ordálie) a súdne súboje praktizované v stredovekom Uhorsku. Cieľom bolo presiahnuť zaužívané paradigmy staršej historiografie a odpútať sa od neustálej reprodukcie formálnej stránky božích súdov. Na základe prameňov stredovekého Uhorska autor analyzuje ordálie v duchu historicko-antropologických prístupov, čoho výsledkom je interpretácia ideového pozadia a existenčných predpokladov tejto právnej ustanovizne. Zámerom je čitateľovi priblížiť súbor predstáv o svete a náboženských presvedčení, ktoré sú inherentne spojené s inštitútom božích súdov. Vo výsledku by mal tak dospieť k lepšiemu porozumeniu danej problematike. Druhou oblasťou, ktorej autor venuje svoju pozornosť, je úloha ordálií v spoločnosti stredovekého Uhorska. Opäť na príklade dostupných prameňov prezentuje ich funkciu pri riešení ľudských konfliktov spojených s rôznymi spoločenskými zmenami. Poukazuje na význam ordálií pri zabezpečení právoplatnosti a akceptácie konečného rozhodnutia. Tretia časť práce predstavuje históriu súdnych súbojov v stredovekom Uhorsku a ich meniacu sa koncepciu, ktorá sa od formy božieho súdu transformovala do profánnej záležitosti vo veci cti. Záver tvorí diskusia nad možnými príčinami úpadku a zániku ordálií v študovanom geografickom priestore.The topic of the thesis are judgments of God (ordeals) and judicial duels practiced in medieval Hungary. The aim was to go beyond the usual paradigms of older historiography and to break away from the constant reproduction of the formal side of the judgments of God. Based on the sources from medieval Hungary, the author analyzes the ordeals in the spirit of historical-anthropological approaches, which results in the interpretation of the ideological background and existential assumptions of this legal institution. The intention is to introduce the reader into the complex of ideas about the world and religious beliefs, which are inherently connected with the institute of the judgments of God. As a result, it should lead to a better understanding of the issue. The second field to which the author pays his attention is the role of ordeals in the society of medieval Hungary. Again, on the example of available sources, he presents their function in resolving human conflicts associated with various social changes. He points out the importance of ordeals in ensuring the validity and acceptance of the final decision. The third part of the work presents the history of judicial duels in medieval Hungary and their changing concept, which has been transformed from the form of the judgments of God into a profane matter of honor. The conclusion is a discussion of the possible causes of the decline and extinction of ordeals in the studied geographical area.
