Bakalářská práce je zaměřena na historii protičínského sentimentu ve Spojených státech amerických, především na jeho průběh v době studené války. Nejprve se zabývá protičínským sentimentem jako celosvětově rozšířeným jevem, poté se zaměřuje na jeho prvotní projevy v USA, tedy na Chinese Exclusion Act. Největší prostor je věnován mccarthismu a případu Qiana Xuesena, tzv. otce čínského kosmického programu. Výsledky zkoumání poukazují na fakt, že ačkoli protičínský sentiment začal jako jev založený na odlišnosti kultury a rasy, ve studené válce podlehl trendu tehdejších protikomunistických nálad. Čínští Američané tedy byli v první řadě pronásledování za předpokládanou spřízněnost s komunistickou Čínskou lidovou republikou, až v druhé za svůj etnický původ a odlišnost od americké kultury.This thesis aims to describe the history of anti-Chinese sentiment in the United States of America. The focus will lie with its progress during the Cold War between the Western Bloc and Eastern Bloc (1947-1991). The first part of the thesis centers on anti-Chinese sentiment as a global problem, then it moves on to the Chinese Exclusion Act. This thesis pays special attention to the chapter concerning McCarthyism and the case of Qian Xuesen, the so-called father of the Chinese space program. The conclusion of this thesis points to the fact that while anti-Chinese sentiment started based on race and different cultures, the Cold War changed its course. It subjected to the trend of anti-communism. Chinese Americans were therefore persecuted for their connection to the communist People's Republic of China first, persecuted for their differences from European culture second.
