Tato diplomová práce se zabývá pojmem kontextu jako nezbytnou součástí vzniku a překladu dramatu. Práce je založena na divadelní hře "Višňový sad" Antona Čechova a na dvou překladech tohoto díla do angličtiny. V práci jsou představeny překlady Marie Amadei Ashotové a Libby Appelové. Cílem diplomové práce je analyzovat tyto dvě anglické verze z hlediska kulturního kontextu a porovnat postupy překladatelek.The diploma thesis deals with the notion of context as an indispensable part of drama creation and translation. The material of the thesis is based on the play "The Cherry Orchard" by Anton Chekhov and on two translations of this work into English. In the thesis, translations by Maria Amadei Ashot and Libby Appel are presented. The aim of the thesis is to analyse the two English versions from the perspective of cultural context and to compare the approaches used by the translators.
