Tato práce se zabývá generickým užitím členů v německém a anglickém jazyce. Teoretická část shrnuje poznatky dosavadního výzkumu. Je zde věnována pozornost definici genericity, její kategorizaci a užití členů v ní. Metodologická část navrhuje vhodný jazykový materiál a taky postup, na jehož základě jsou v části praktické prováděna kontrastní zkoumání, jejichž cílem je objasnit případy, v nichž byl v každém z jazyků použit jiný člen.The main object of this thesis is the generic use of articles in German and in English. The theoretical part summarizes the results of previous research. The attention is given to the definition and categorization of genericity as well as to the article use within it. The methodological part suggests the most appropriate means and ways for the latter part in which the contrastive research itself is conducted. Its goal is to be able to assign reasons for the cases of diverging usage of article in the two languages.
