ato diplomová práce se zabývá srovnáním dvou románů s indiánskou tematikou z 19. století. Jedná se o světoznámé dílo Karla Maye Winnetou I. a první román rakousko-moravského autora Charlesa Sealsfielda Tokeah aneb Bílá růže. Přes shodné téma obou děl existuje celá řada faktorů, na základně kterých by se tyto romány mohly lišit - ať už rozdílná doba vzniku a rozdílná politická angažovanost autorů, či především teoreticky rozdílné kompetence obou spisovatelů. Zatímco Charles Sealsfield své dílo sepsal v Americe, poté co prokazatelně cestoval právě po oblastech děje svého příběhu, Karel May byl v Americe až desítky let po sepsání knihy Winnetou I., a to sice v době, kdy byl slavný, romantizovaný, divoký západ 19. století již minulostí. Cílem této práce je prokázat, či vyvrátit tezi, že tyto tři zmíněné faktory byly příčinou rozdílného zpracování dané tématiky. Samotné komparaci předem vybraných témat (vzhled indiánů, mentalita indiánů. atd.), bude předcházet jejich podrobná analýza.This thesis deals with the comparison of two novels with an Indian theme. It compares Karl May's world famous work Winnetou I. and the first novel of Austro-Moravian author Charles Sealsfield Tokeah or the White Rose. Despite the identical theme, there is a wide range of factors which make these novels different: such as a different times of origin, the different political engagement of the authors and primarily the different theoretical competencies of both writers. Whereas Charles Sealsfield wrote his work in America after he had travelled through the places he described in his novels, Karl May went to America many years after publishing his book Winnetou 1, and after the famously romanticized wild West period had been already over. The goal of this thesis is to prove or disprove the theory that these three factors caused different adaptations of the Indian theme. After my detailed analysis of the chosen topics (the Indian appearance, the Indian mentality, etc.) are the comparative and contrasting points.
