Diplomová práce se v úvodu teoretické části zabývá definicí základních pojmů a vývojem demografických dat týkajících se porodnosti, mrtvorozenosti a úmrtnosti v České republice v posledních letech. Dále se zaměřuje na diagnózu foetus mortus, umírání a smrt, zejména v práci porodní asistentky. Okrajová část práce je také zaměřena na vzdělávání porodních asistentek v této problematice. Praktická část práce je věnována kvalitativnímu výzkumu, který byl proveden formou rozhovorů s porodními asistentkami, a přibližuje tak jejich poznatky z praxe. Hlavním cílem praktické části diplomové práce bylo zjistit osobní zkušenosti, subjektivní pocity a využívání pomocných mechanismů porodních asistentek při konfrontaci se smrtí v jejich povolání. Se smrtí pacientky se ve své praxi setkaly celkem tři z respondentek, všechny dvakrát a více. V souvislosti s touto situací byl zmíněn například strach, úzkost, nespavost a pláč, také smutek či pocit nevolnosti. O ženy s dg. foetus mortus pečovaly všechny respondentky opakovaně. Situace byly popsány jako nepříjemné a respondentky zmiňovaly například obavy ohledně komunikace se ženou či lítost. Nejčastějším vnějším zdrojem zvládání zátěžových situací byla sociální opora.The theoretical part of the diploma thesis deals with the definition of the basic terms as well as the development of demographic data related to the birth rate, stillbirth and mortality in the Czech Republic in recent years. Furthermore, the theoretical part focuses on the diagnosis of fetus mortus, dying and death, especially in the midwife work. The small part of the thesis also aims at the midwives' education in this field. The practical part of thesis devotes to the qualitative research which was realized through a series of interviews with midwives and their practical knowledge. The main goal of the practical part was to discover the personal experience, subjective feelings and the use of support techniques of midwives in confrontation with death as part of their profession. Three of all respondents have encountered with the death of the female patient and all three respondents have experienced such situation two or more times. Emotions such as fear, anxiety, insomnia and crying, also sadness or sickness were mentioned in association with this situation. All respondents have repeatedly provided medical care for women diagnosed with fetus mortus. Those situations were described as unpleasant and the respondents also mentioned concerns about communication with female patients or compassion. The most common external source of handling the stressful situations was the social support.
