Diplomatické vztahy mezi US a Kubou se vyhrotily na počátku 60. let 20. století. Více než 50 let zůstala politika Spojených států vůči Kubě stále stejná. Tato práce si klade za cíl zjistit, zda skutečně došlo ke změně americké politiky ke Kubě během funkčního období administrativy Baracka H. Obamy. Práce je rozdělena do tří kapitol. První kapitola popisuje pravomoci prezidenta Spojených států, zvláště pak pravomoci v oblasti zahraniční politiky. Druhá část se zabývá charakterem obou majoritních politických stran v USA a rozdíly ve stranické ideologii. Druhá kapitola pojednává o historii americko-kubánských vztahů od nástupu Fidela Castra k moci až do konce administrativy Billa Clintona. Třetí kapitola komparuje administrativu George W. Bushe a Baracka H. Obamy v rámci čtyř kritérií, a to míry kubánské imigrace do USA, stavu embarga, stranické identifikace kubánské diaspory v USA, a nakonec míry podpory demokratických hodnot na Kubě a vzájemné spolupráce obou zemí.Diplomatic relations between the United States and Cuba have risen in the early 1960. For over fifty years, it has still remained the same policy of the United States towards Cuba. This paper aims to find out whether there has actually been a change in US policy towards Cuba during Barack Obama's administration. The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter describes the powers of the President of the United States, in particular foreign policy powers, and in the second part the character of both political parties in the United States and the differences in party ideology. The second chapter deals with the history of US-Cuban relations since Fidel Castro entered power after the end of Bill Clinton's administration. The third chapter compares George W. Bush and Barack Obama's administration with four criteria and rates of Cuban immigration to the US, status embargo, party identification of the Cuban diaspora in the United States, and ultimately the promotion of democratic values in Cuba and mutual cooperation between the two countries.
