This thesis deals with Spanglish, a set of linguistic phenomena that originates from the contact between English and Spanish, and its presence in several podcasts published online. The theoretical framework discusses the issues of linguistic contact and change and the maintenance and displacement of languages. It demonstrates the strong presence of Spanish in the United States and its position in relation to English and describes Spanglish in detail. In the second part of the thesis we carried out a qualitative linguistic analysis of podcasts produced by Latin Americans, focusing on the linguistic phenomena that forms Spanglish and on the socio-pragmatic functions that fulfils code-switching.
