Tato diplomová práce se věnuje kritické analýze českého překladu knihy The Elfstones of Shannara. Teoretická část se věnuje kritice překladu a hodnocení kvality překladu, různým přístupům hodnocení kvality překladu, rozdílům mezi češtinou a angličtinou a problematice literárního překladu se zaměřením na fantasy literaturu. Na základě uvedené teorie následuje kritická analýza českého překladu Jiřího Dolanského (1997) a jeho srovnání s novějším překladem této knihy Adama Steinze (2017). Cílem práce je zhodnotit zejména kvalitu překladu z roku 1997 a vyhodnotit, zda je překlad z roku 2017 povedenější.This diploma thesis deals with a translation quality assessment of the Czech translation of the book The Elfstones of Shannara. The theoretical part is provided with the background for translation criticism, various approaches to critical analysis of translation and typological differences between Czech and English. It also deals with literary translation with special regard to fantasy literature. Based on the theoretical part the practical part provides a critical analysis of the Czech translation from 1997 and its comparison with the latest Czech translation of the book from 2017. The aim of the thesis is to assess the quality of the translation from 1997 and determine whether the translation from 2017 is better.
