Introduction: Stroke is currently one of the most common causes of disability. It has a clear impact on the self-sufficiency of patients and thus it affects their life. Aim: The aim of this diploma thesis is the evaluation of the function independence of patients with stroke in ACM localization. Methodology: 20 patients with stroke in ACM localization (their first stroke, subacute stage) participated in this research. Modified Barthel Index (MBI) and Functional Independence Measure (FIM) were used to the evaluation. In addition, a sample of 5 patients with stroke (2x VB localization, 2x BG localization, 1x ACA localization) were mentioned. The aim was the finding out whether they differ in their self-sufficiency. Results: Their presentes, that the degree of functional independence of the patients with stroke in ACM localization has been demonstrably improved after rehabilitation. Simultaneously it was proved that the longer hospitalization of the patients in the rehabilitation depertment meant their greater improvement in their self-sufficiency. On the other hand, the hemiparesis on the dominant or non-dominant hand had not any influence on the self-sufficiency of the patients. Based on the results, it can be argued that the lower leg function was better than the function of the upper limb in these patients. The patients with stroke in other localization than ACM did not differ in their self-sufficiency. Due to very small and non-uniform sample, they were evaluated only on the basis of the average results. Conclusion: By assessing of the self-sufficiency of the patients were characterised their functional abilities, which have been demonstrably improved after rehabilitation.
