Hlavním cílem této práce je zjistit vztah mezi proměnnými locus of control a motivací u hráčů MMORPG hry World of Warcraft. Práce představuje žánr MMORPG her v širším kontextu i s jeho bohatou historií. Popisuje typického uživatele MMORPG her a také samotnou hru World of Warcraft. Představuje také několik typologií hráčů založených na jejich motivaci ke hře. V širším kontextu práce představuje také pojem locus of control, od jeho počátků, vývoje, měření, až po různé odnože škál měřících locus of control na specifických populacích. Práce se také zabývá charakteristikou lidí skórujících jak na pólu internalismu, tak na pólu externalismu na škále locus of control. V empirické části práce představuje vlastní výzkum založený na hráčích hry World of Warcraft. Tato část představuje Rotterovu I-E škálu, která byla použita ve výzkumu pro zjištění locus of control a dále pak dotazník Game Play Motivation, který byl použit pro zjištění motivace hráčů. Respondenti pro výzkum byli získáni ze skupin a fór sdružujících hráče Word of Warcraft, na kterých byl vyvěšen dotazník s žádostí o vyplnění. Ze získaných dat jsme zjišťovali jak pohlaví, věk a locus of control ovlivňují motivaci hráče.The main aim of this diploma thesis is to discover the relationship between these variables - locus of control and motivation of the players of the MMORPG game World of Warcraft. The thesis introduces the genre of MMORPG games in wider context together with its rich history. It describes the typical user of MMORPG games and the game World of Warcraft itself. It also presents a few typologies of players based on their game motivation. In wider context, the thesis introduces term locus of control from its early beginnings, development, measuring to various types of scales measuring locus of control of specific populations. This diploma thesis also deals with the characteristics of people who score both with internal and external pole on scale of locus of control. The empirical part offers the research based on World of Warcraft players. This part presents Rotter's I-E scale, which has been used in the research to discover locus of control, and the Game Play Motivation questionnaire, which has been used to discover the motivation of players. Research respondents were recruited from groups and discussion forums connecting World of Warcraft players, where the questionnaire has been posted together with request to fill it. The acquired data were used to discover how gender, age and locus of control influence motivation of the players.
