According to many scholars in the field, Western Europe is experiencing another transition to a secular age, when the religious values and institutions are increasingly being questioned, the place of Humanism and Secularism as alternatives both in the political and social may attract an increased attention as well. This thesis studies and compares two prominent Humanist organizations in Europe, The National Secular Society from the UK and La Ligue de L'enseignement from France. Both of these organizations are popular in their respective countries, and take already a large space in the public discourse. The thesis utilizes Ernesto Laclau and Chantal Mouffe's discourse theory to compare and analyze the discourses of both organizations, both in the local perspective and European.
