Práce se zabývá topologií šesti vybraných románů Petera Ackroyda. Předkládá nejprve shrnutí kritické recepce Ackroydova díla, jeho role v kontextu literárních teorií a představuje spisovatelovo svébytné pojetí Londýna. Práce se v teoretické části věnuje vymezení pojmům "prostor" a "místo" a způsobům, jakým se místo proměňuje v literární topos a nabývá archetypálních kvalit a předkládá obecné rysy zkoumaných toposů: domu, komnaty, chrámu, věže, brány, vězení a meta-toposu labyrintu/bludiště. Analýza románů se soustřeďuje na identifikaci a charakteristiku těchto opakovaně se vyskytujících míst, protože ve struktuře děl hrají klíčovou roli. Obvykle značí průsečíky dějových linií, aktivně působí na postavy a mají stěžejní funkce ve významové rovině textu. Bohaté a komplikované vztahy procházející napříč literárním časem a prostorem (a někdy i mimo ně) vytvářejí v Ackroydových textech síť, jež je ukotvena v uzlech, které splývají se jmenovanými toposy. Rozbor románů odhaluje, že Ackroydova poetika založená na řadě postmoderních postupů využívá tradičních topologických konstrukcí obohacených o prvky tajemna a nebezpečí.The thesis deals with the topology of six selected novels by Peter Ackroyd. Firstly, it provides an overview of Ackroyd's critical reception, his place within contemporary literary theory and presents the author's idiosyncratic vision of London. In the theoretical part, the thesis discusses the terms "space" and "place" and the ways in which a place can be transformed into a literary "topos" and acquires archetypal qualities. The general features of the following topoi in question are introduced: a house, a chamber, a temple, a spire, a gate, a prison and the meta-topos of a labyrinth/maze. The subsequent analysis focuses on the identification and characterisation of these recurrent locations which play crucial roles in the structure of Ackroyd's works. They mark the intersection points of the novels' storylines, actively influencing characters and conveying the important meanings of the text. The rich and complicated relations between places and characters in Ackroyd's texts stretch across the novels's spacetime (and sometimes even beyond) and create a network which is anchored in nodes that coincide with the topoi. The analysis reveals that Ackroyd's fiction, despite displaying an array of postmodern devices, utilizes traditional topological constructions, to which the elements of mystery and danger are added.
