Il lavoro tratta degli albori della tradizione della Dormitio Mariae, spesso erroneamente considerati come incerti ed oscuri. I risultati ottenuti mediante un confronto della letteratura assunzionista apocrifa e patristica con l'archeologia, la liturgia e l'iconografia, permettono di risalire fino agli inizi della tradizione, fornendo in tal modo nuovi elementi sull'ambiente sorgivo del dogma, profondamente radicato nella vita religiosa, cultuale ed ecclesiale della Chiesa primitiva giudeo-cristiana. Tale credenza fu dapprima espressa con categorie tipiche giudaiche della festa di Sukkot, mentre in un secondo momento con categorie elleniche, lontane dalla propria origine, a causa del processo di degiudaizzazione della Chiesa, in seguito alla separazione tra la Ecclesia ex circumcisione e la Ecclesia ex gentibus avvenuta gradualmente dal secondo secolo in poi. Oggi possiamo affermare che la proclamazione di fede nell'Assunta e un dato originario della prima Chiesa, di matrice giudaica ed apocrifa, comprensibile nel trinomio perfettamente ortodosso della morte, risurrezione ed assunzione corporea della Madre del Signore.This academic work focuses on the origins of the tradition of the dormition of Mary (Dormitio Mariae), often erroneously considered as uncertain and obscure. Its findings have been drawn from a comparative analysis of apocryphal and patristic Assumptionist literature, archeology, liturgy and iconography, allowing the thesis to trace back to the beginnings of the tradition. In this way new elements emerge regarding the environment in which the dogma arose, elements profoundly rooted in the religious, worshipping and ecclesial life of the early Jewish-Christian Church. This belief was originally expressed using Jewish categories typical of the Feast of Sukkot. Later on, Hellenist categories were used displaying a growing distance from the dogmatic origins. This was a result of the process of 'de-judifying' the Church, in the aftermath of the gradual separation of the Ecclesia ex circumcisione (Church of the circumcision) and the Ecclesia ex gentibus (Church of the Gentiles) from the second century onwards. Today we can affirm that the proclamation of faith in the Assumption is a deposit of faith from the first Church, as revealed in the Jewish and Apocryphal matrix, and understood in the perfectly orthodox trinomial of the death, resurrection and bodily assumption of the Mother of the Lord.
