This thesis is concerned with evil in selected works of William Goldin, a recurring and central theme of his novels. Furthermore, self-delusion, which is inherently connected with Golding's notion of evil, is analysed and the connection between these two elements established. The research primarily focuses on the novels Lord of the Flies, The Inheritors, Pincher Martin, and The Spire which showcase Golding's prevailing idea that the faults of society can be traced to the faults of an individual and the nature of human race.
