This overview bacalary work deals with infections of urinary tracts of nonpregnant and pregnant women in the period of lactation. This bacalary work deals with the most occuring urologic infections of nonpregnant women. It mentions risk factors of repeated inflammations of the urinary tracts as: short urethra of women, usage of contraceptive preparations containing spermicid agents, frequent alternation of sexual partners and other. It informs about diagnostic methods serving to detect urinary tract infections (UTI) and possible methods of treatment, from which the most effective seems to be daily usage of antimicrobial preparations. For better understanding of the causes of common urinary tract infections of the pregnant, this bacalary work contains a mention about physiological changes of the urinary system, which predispose the pregnant to these infections. It describes the most occuring urinary tract infections of pregnant and breastfeeding women and their possible influence on the fetus/baby and the differences of treatment. Further, it deals with activities of a midwife within prevention of UTI focusing on education activities in the area of risk factors. This bacalary work should serve to provide informations to the women general public, but also to increase knowledge of midwives about alternative prophylactic options of UTI.
