Cílem této diplomové práce je analyzovat postupy používané nizozemskými kolonizátory při osídlovaní území dnešního New Yorku a samotné důvody kolonizace. Při opisu historie kolonie se snažím vybrat ty nejdůležitejší události, které kolonii vyformovali do té podoby v které je dnes. Dále je cílem hledat vše, co tam Nizozemci po sobě po odchodu zanechali, a zjistit, jestli něco z toho vytrvalo až do dnešní doby.The purpose of this master thesis is to analyze the ways of the Dutch colonists during the colonization of the area of present day New York and the reasons for this colonization. During the description of the colony's history I am trying to pick the most important events which formed the city into its present day form. I am also trying to find things that were left behind by the Dutch after the area was taken from them and find out whether something remains till today.
