Tato diplomová práce je zaměřena na překlad anglicky psané studie Contemporary theory of metaphor od George Lakoffa (1993). Kromě samotného překladu se práce zabývá konceptuální teorií metafory a jejím srovnáním s teorií klasickou, detailněji představuje principy fungování konceptuální metafory a její základní typy. Dále také komentuje charakter odborných textů a specifika překladu tohoto typu textu. V překladatelském komentáři jsou představeny jednotlivé překladatelské postupy, které jsou ilustrovány na konkrétních příkladech z textu, dále změny vyplývající z rozdílných typologických charakteristik angličtiny a češtiny, přičemž nechybí ani teoretické srovnání obou jazyků jakožto typických zástupců jazyků izolačních a flexivních. Druhá část komentáře je vedena formou poznámek pod čarou ve vlastním překládaném textu.This thesis is concerned with the annotated translation of the English-written study, specifically Contemporary theory of metaphor by George Lakoff (1993). In addition to the translation itself, it focuses on the conceptual theory of metaphor and compares it with the traditional view on this phenomenon. It also provides a theoretical background for a translation theory with the emphasis on the characteristic aspects of Czech and English scientific texts. The translation commentary deals with some translation strategies that are demonstrated on particular examples from the text, and general differences between English and Czech that influence the translation strategies. The second part of the commentary is in the form of footnotes in the translated study.
