Tato diplomová práce analyzuje vzájemné vztahy EU a JAR optikou teorie soft power od Josepha Nye. Prostřednictvím této teorie se snaží nalézt komplexní balíček důvodů motivujících JAR k navázání a postupnému prohlubování vzájemných vztahů s EU. Za tímto účelem hlouběji zkoumá obchodní vazbu, poskytování rozvojové pomoci ze strany EU a spolupráci v oblasti vědy, technologií a výzkumu. Závěrečná kapitola nabízí stručný výhled do budoucnosti a nástin další možné oblasti spolupráce obou aktérů podpory míru, demokracie a stability v Africe. Text je uzavřen syntézou poznatků shrnující jak motivační faktory JAR, tak rozhodující charakteristiky soft power EU.This master thesis analyses relations of the EU and South Africa using the soft power theory by Joseph Nye.
