Práce se zabývá střetem dvou odlišných kultur (západoevropské civilizace a tradiční domorodé kultury hispánské Ameriky), které jsou v díle konfrontovány prostřednictvím bezejmenného vypravěče románu. Cílem práce je zjistit, nakolik se jedná o autobiografickou postavu, zachytit, jakým způsobem se tento protagonista vyjadřuje o historických událostech (nejen) své doby, popsat, jaké mýty využívá k vykreslení specifického prostředí domorodé americké kultury a zda jsou jeho názory z historického a faktografického hlediska věrohodné.The diploma thesis deals with the divergence of two different worlds: the western European culture and the traditional Hispanic American culture, which are confronted here by means of an anonymous narrator of the novel. The aim of the thesis is investigating to what extend is he an autobiographic character, describing the way he talks about historical events of his time, analyzing the myths which are used here to depict the specific environment of the native American cultures and finally, deciding whether his opinions are credible from the historical and factual point of view.
