Tato práce pojednává o zobrazení amerického Jihu a jeho společenských a politických aspektů ve dvou upírských románových ságách Pravá krev a Upíří deníky a také jejich televizními adaptacemi. Práce se zabývá problematikou rasy, stereotypizací pohlaví, společenskou stratifikací a také psychoanalytickou analýzou Sigmunda Freuda. Nedílnou součástí je teorie adaptace, gotického románu a přehled dosavadní upírské literatury nejen s jižanskou tématikou. Cílem práce je komparace románů a seriálových adaptací s ohledem na různé věkové skupiny a prokázání jižanského vlivu na vybrané ságy.The thesis deals with the portrayal of the American South and its sicial and political features in two vampire series, True Blood and The Vampire Diaries, and their television adaptations. The thesis focuses on racial and gender stereotypes, social stratification as well as psychoanalysis by Sigmund Freud. It also uses the theory of adaptation, Gothic novel and provides an overview of vampire literature. The aim of the Ph.D. thesis is a comparative analysis of the novels and their television adaptations with different target audiences, and prove the influence of the American South.
