Tato diplomová práce se zabývá analýzou Jamesova pojetí náboženské zkušenosti na pozadí sporu The Battle of the Absolute, jak bývá nazýváno Jamesovo intelektuální zápolení s jeho filosofickým rivalem Josiahem Roycem, představitelem absolutního idealismu. Na základě analýzy ideových východisek a koncepcí obou myslitelů budou představeny hlavní mezníky jejich sporu a bude proveden rozbor Jamesova hlavního díla týkajícího se náboženské zkušenosti, The Varieties of Religious Experience. V práci budou představeny hlavní charakteristiky Jamesova přístupu a následně bude provedena filosofická reflexe jeho názorů.This thesis focuses on the analysis of James' conception of religious experience on the background of the dispute The Battle of the Absolute, as it is called James' intellectual struggle with his philosophical rival Josiah Royce, representative of the absolute idealism. Based on an analysis of ideological assumptions and concepts of both thinkers there will be presented the main landmarks of their dispute and James' main work related to religious experience, The Varieties of Religious Experience, will be analysed. In this thesis there will be presented the main characteristics of James' approach and then philosophical reflection of his views will be made.
