Spekulativní musica, jedna z disciplín kvadrivia, byla středověku předána v díle De institutione musica A. M. S. Boethia. Předkládaná práce sleduje pozici musiky v raně středověkých vzdělávacích institucích a poté se zaměřuje na počáteční stadia existence univerzity v Paříži. Zde došlo v důsledku rozmachu aristotelianismu k určitému úpadku musiky. Tento úpadek se rozhodl zvrátit Johannes de Muris svým výtahem z Boethia nazývaným dnes nejčastěji Musica speculativa secundum Boethium. Na příkladu pražské univerzity, kde byla Musica speculativa využívána při výuce, práce sleduje, nakolik se Murisův záměr podařilo naplnit.Speculative musica, one of the disciplines of quadrivium, had been transfered to the Middle Ages in A. M. S. Boethius' work De institutione musica. The recent study follows the place of musica in the early medieval educational institutions and then targets at the initial phases of the existence of the Paris university. There, a certain decline of musica took place as a result of the rise of aristotelianism. It was Johannes de Muris who decided to reverse this decline by writing an abridgement of Boethius, today most widely known as Musica speculativa secundum Boethium. How successfully Muris' intention had been fulfilled, has been observed at the example of Prague university, where Musica speculativa had been in use as a textbook.
