Erasmus Mundas MA Euroculture Introduction- Outline and methodology Chapeter One- looks into; - Discourse Analysis - Historiography - Centralization of language/ topography of power - Processes of nationhood - Definitions of ethnicity & state - Primordialist versus Modernist perceptions of the history of nationalism - Western European traditions of patria & nation - Definitions of Patriotism; Civic & Nationalisms - Tsarist and Soviet legacies in Eastern Europe Chapter two- Highlights debates within Belarusian historiography and the several discourses that exist between rival claimants of Belarusian nationalism, national identity and nationhood. Comparing and contrasting historical milestones of Belarusian identification and the way academic perceptions have been shaped by historians in Tsarist and Soviet Belarus. Chapter three- Highlights modern constructions of Belarusian national identity since 1990. Academics, language questions, education and political regimes will all be looked at, to show how they have all shaped perceptions of Belarusian nationalism and reinterpreted modern historical discourse in relation to previous legacies of discourse in Belarus.
