Bakalářská práce se zabývá analýzou vztahu Islandu vůči Evropské unii, který výrazně ovlivnila jistá specifika tohoto ostrova. Práce si dala za cíl najít konkrétní důvody nezájmu o spolupráci a naopak takové faktory, které přiměly islandskou vládu změnit strategii v otázce přistoupení do EU. Práce je vystavěna na základě tří hlavních kapitol. První z nich zkoumá specifické rysy Islandu, konkrétně geografickou, politickou a ekonomickou situaci. Zahrnuje také zvláštní vztah země se Spojenými státy americkými. Druhá kapitola začíná charakteristikou vývoje událostí v poválečné Evropě, pozvolnou integrací západoevropských zemí do nadnárodních struktur a reakcí Skandinávie na tyto procesy založením Severské pasové unie, kterou lze s trochou nadsázky označit za předchůdce Schengenského prostoru ze severu. Dále kapitola popisuje přístup Islandu do Evropského společenství volného obchodu, následně expanzi na společný trh Evropské unie v rámci Evropského hospodářského prostoru a na závěr začlenění ostrova do Schengenského prostoru. Poslední kapitola je věnována změně postoje Islandu v otázce vstupu do EU. Týká se ekonomických a politických faktorů, které k tomuto obratu přispěly. V závěru kapitoly je přiblížena aktuální situace. Pomocí těchto jednotlivých faktorů jsou zodpovězeny stanovené výzkumné otázky.Bachelor's thesis analyzes the relationship of Iceland to the European Union, which is greatly affected by specifics of this island. Thesis has set a goal to find reasons for lack of cooperation and on the other hand to find factors that prompted the Icelandic Government to change strategy on the accession to the EU. The thesis is built upon three main chapters. The first one examines the specific features of Iceland, in particular geographic, political and economic situation. It also includes the country's relationship with the United States. The second chapter begins with the definition of events in postwar Europe, gradual integracion of Western European countries into multiinternational structures and reactions of Scandinavia on these processes by establishing the Nordic Passport Union, which can be with a little exaggeration, the predecessor of the Schengen pact from the north. Further chapter describes the approach of Iceland to the European Free Trade Association, subsequently expanding the shared market of the European Union within the European Economic Area and finally integration of the island into the Schengen area. The last chapter is devoted to a change of attitude on the issue of Iceland's accession to the EU. It concerns the economic and political factors, which contributed to this turnover.At the end of the chapter is released current situation. Using these individual factors to answer addressed research questions.
