Given the increasing number of documented cases of invasive fungal infections, their changing etiology and epidemiology and the confirmed resistance of pathogens causing these diseases to antifungals, in vitro tests of susceptibility to antifungal agents have been increasingly important. To ensure that the results are reliable and fully reproducible, generally recognized standardized procedures have to be used. The thesis is mainly concerned with the practical aspects of methods for testing the susceptibility of yeast microorganisms to antifungals issued by the European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing Subcommittee on Antifungal Susceptibility Testing.
