Cílem diplomové práce je analyzovat postavy žen v povídkách "Karmazínová záclona", "Nejkrásnější láska Dona Juana", "Štěstí v zločinu", "Rub karet whistové partie", "Na hostině ateistů", "Pomsta ženy" v díle Ďábelské novely od francouzského spisovatele Jules Barbey d'Aurevilly. První a druhá kapitola se zabývají ve stručnosti životem autora a charakteristikou díla pro lepší orientaci v problematice. V následujících šesti kapitolách, které odpovídají šesti povídkám, jsou rozebírány jednotlivé postavy žen na základě jejich jména, vzhledu, jejich charakteru a chování, mytologických či uměleckých odkazů a role, kterou ženy zaujímají v příběhu. Poslední závěrečná kapitola je založená na syntéze získaných poznatků a na základě podobnosti kategorizuje ženy jako ideál krásy, ďáblice, hříšnice, vražednice, cizoložnice, Sfingy či Gorgony. Dále je rozebírá z pohledu femme fatale, zvířeckosti, mužskosti a jejich vztahu k mateřství. Celá práce je ukončena reflexí nad ambivalencí ženy jako objektem touhy díky své přitažlivosti a objektem odporu kvůli svému ďábelskému a zvrhlému nitru.The aim of this thesis is to analyze a female character in Jules Barbey d'Aurevilly's The She-Devils. The first and the second chapter deal briefly with author's life and his work in general in order to introduce the topic. The following six chapters corresponding to six short-stories of The She-Devils treat the issue of female characters who are described in terms of their name, physical appearance, their temper and behavior, their role and mythological or artistic references. The last chapter compares all the descriptions of female characters and on the basis either of their similarity or diversity categorizes all the female characters as being not only the ideal of beauty but also devils, sinners, murderers, adulteress, the Sphinx or the Gorgons. In addition, all the female characters can be looked upon from the perspective of femme fatale, bestiality, masculinity and their relationship to motherhood. The thesis is concluded with the reflection of the female characters as ambivalent since they can be viewed as an object of desire thanks to their beauty and sex-appeal and object of repulsion due to their diabolical and perverse temper.
